A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of Kada Scott, a 23-year-old Black woman who went missing nearly two weeks ago.

According to PEOPLE, Keon King, 21, was taken into custody on Wednesday (October 15) after Scott vanished from her workplace on October 4, Philadelphia police said.

Scott remains missing, but authorities said King was the last person to have contact with her before her phone activity abruptly stopped.

"He was the last person in contact with Kada when her cell phone and social media activities dropped," Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney Ashley Toczylowski said during a press conference.

Scott, who worked at an assisted living facility, had reportedly told friends she was being harassed via phone calls in the days leading up to her disappearance.

Toczylowki declined to comment on whether King is linked to the harassing phone calls. However, Toczylowski alleged that King is connected to a vehicle of interest that investigators believe Scott was inside.

The assistant DA also revealed that King had previously been charged with kidnapping and strangulation in an unrelated case earlier this year. Those charges were dropped after the alleged victim failed to appear in court, but authorities now intend to refile them.

"We believe these alleged offenses are a pattern," Toczylowski said.

King is currently being charged with recklessly endangering another person in connection with Scott’s disappearance.

Although Scott’s case has been handed over to the homicide unit, police said it is not yet classified as a homicide investigation. The FBI is now assisting with the case.

Scott’s family has launched a GoFundMe to support the search for the 23-year-old.

"Every dollar raised strengthens our ability to bring her home and encourages anyone with information to come forward," Scott's family wrote on the fundraising page. "This effort is dedicated to raising awareness, supporting search efforts, and ensuring that no lead goes unheard."
