Colorado football coach Deion Sanders said he's hopeful for a fast recovery after he had another surgery to address suspected blood clots in his foot, per CNN.

On Saturday (October 4), Sanders, 58, revealed that he was experiencing more blood clots in his foot after the Buffaloes' 48-21 loss to Texas Christian University. The NFL Hall of Famer confirmed Tuesday (October 7) that he underwent surgery, posting a smiling photo from his hospital bed.

Prior to the surgery, Sanders told reporters that his condition was hereditary and unrelated to his coaching workload.

“This has nothing to do with me working at the level that I’m trying to compete at. It’s hereditary, it is what it is,” Sanders told reporters before the procedure. “There’s nothing that I could’ve done to stop what’s transpiring.”

In 2023, Sanders underwent surgery for blood clots in both legs, narrowly avoiding a foot amputation. He previously had two toes amputated while coaching at Jackson State University due to similar complications.

Coach Prime also underwent life-saving bladder cancer surgery earlier this year after revealing that doctors had found an aggressive malignant tumor. He had his bladder removed and cited the operation as his 14th surgery.

“I didn’t stare death in the face — I stared life in the face,” Sanders told CNN Sports after his cancer surgery. “I’ve got a lot of well-wishes, people talking about: ‘You need to slow down. You need to take a break.’ But this isn’t something I caused. It is what it is.”

Sanders said he aimed to return to practice on Wednesday (October 8), less than 24 hours after his blood clot surgery.

“I’m going to keep going. I’m going to keep leading. This doesn’t stop me,” he said.
