Spelman College pageant contestants are taking the internet by storm.
In viral TikTok videos, Spelman College pageant contestants are showing off their beauty, brains, and confidence in creative introductions ahead of several competitions happening on campus this month.
The videos are introducing the world to HBCU pageant season and spotlighting Spelman women as they race for the crown. Upcoming competitions at the Atlanta institution include the Miss Spelman College pageant, which announces its winner on April 14, the Miss Black and Gold pageant, and Miss Afrolatinidad.
“Your search for the queen is officially done,” Aziyah, pageant contestant and junior political science major, said in a viral TikTok. “Because, like my institution, I come second to none.”
Madison, a third-year English major, also made her case for the crown in a viral TikTok.
“Slow and steady, that’s how queens are made,” Madison said. “So I’ve just been patiently waiting, but finally, it’s my moment. Oh, and trust me, I’m about to own it.”
The videos have left social media users who have never experienced HBCU pageant culture in awe of the grandeur. Users are also making their picks for who they believe the pageant winner should be.
“How am I supposed to get anything done,” one TikToker said. “And what I want to know is why has no one made a show about this yet?”
“This pageant reveal was giving ‘School Daze’ in the best way possible. If you know you know,” a second person said. “And all of the energy that I have spent on Bama rush and breaking that down, it should be spent on this pageant.”
