Senate hopeful Charles Booker received a major endorsement for his run for US Senate.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts threw her support behind the former Kentucky state representative who is running to unseat the current Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul

“Charles understands that the wealthy and powerful too often write the rules in Washington, and he believes deep down that we need to change that. I believe he will take on these righteous fights, and I can’t wait to call him my colleague in the next Congress,” Warren said in an email, per a report by WLKY

Booker is a native of Louisville and hopes to get the Democratic nomination to face off with Paul in the 2022 midterm election. Paul has been a Republican senator for the state since 2011.

“The people of Kentucky are standing for our vision to end generational poverty and make our government work for us, and leaders across the country are taking notice,” Booker wrote in a tweet announcing Warren’s endorsement.

“What we’re doing in Kentucky will not only change our commonwealth, but will change the nation and the entire world,” Booker said in a statement. “We will build a society in which all of us have financial freedom, healthcare, and true public safety.”

In addition to Warren’s endorsement, Booker has received major local support from two large manufacturing unions in Louisville.
